By: Rev. Gerrod Tyler

Greetings Brothers and Sisters n Christ, I thank God for giving me the opportunity to proclaim the truth through this website, and hope the if this article can touch just one life, then I know that this was not done in vain. Please read this article and meditate over this subject during your private time with Christ.

If I asked everyone the simple question “What is a Real Christian,” many people would have various answers to this simple question.

Some would say that a Christian is someone who is saved, others would say that Christians are those who attend church regularly, and the list would go on and on. But honestly, what is a Christian and how do we know one when we see one. Let’s take a look at the make up of what real Christians are.

What a Real Christian Is

Saved – The word Christian means “Christ-like” and you can’t be like Christ without accepting him in your heart. (Romans 10 9-10). Also, we must also remember that once we are saved, we were bought with a price and we are required to be devoted to him and led by the Holy Spirit. (I Corinthians 6:20).

Dedicated – A Real Christian is dedicated to Christ and the ministry of the Kingdom of God. Being dedicated to Christ can not be done unless an individual sacrifices in order to make themselves available for teaching and to work in the ministry. Isn’t it ironic that there are masses of so called “Christians” that flock to church on Sundays, but those same individual have little or no time to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. A Real Christian sold out for Jesus and faithful to the local assembly.

Disciple – A Real Christian is a true disciple of Christ. The word disciple means student, and real Christians follow Christ by studying, understanding, and apply the Word of God to their lives. However, disciples are not only students, but with the aid of the Holy Spirit, they are also teachers as well. Yes, Disciples of Christ pour out their lives to those who are lost the same way someone poured their life into their lives. Disciples walk together in Christian love, are always cognizant of their witness, strive for the advancement of the Kingdom of God, and progress the body of Christ.

Humble – The real Christian is thankful for the grace that God has given us all. They are not prideful or boastful, nor are they ego-driven or materialistic. Real Christians look for ways to serve versus ways to for them to gain. They are dependent on Christ and operate in love, gentleness, and kindness. The Real Christian humbles themselves to Christ, the leadership of the local assembly, and government. The Real Christian is not a gossiper, complainer, or instigator. Also, the real Christian is consistent with their promises, their yes is yes and their no is no.

Transparent – The Real Christian is not ashamed of what God has done in their lives and where God has brought them from. They use their trials and tribulations that they have endured as testimonies to show others that God is a healer, deliverer, restorer, promise keeper, way maker, a burden lifter, and an almighty Savior. Hallelujah!!!!!

(Praise Break: take a few minutes and praise God for the marvelous things he has done!!!!)

Bold – A Real Christian is not afraid to let others know that Jesus Christ is Lord. In other words, Real Christians stand out instead of blending in with everyone else by doing the will the God. They don’t indulge themselves in worldly atmospheres like nightclubs, casinos, strip clubs, etc….   But, we are transformed by the renewing of our minds in the Word of God. (Romans 12:2). We are Christ’s ambassadors and we boldly represent him wherever we may go.

Now that we have covered the main attributes of a Real Christian, the only question left to ask is “Are you a Real Christian.”  We all must understand that we ALL have fallen short of the glory of God, and we ALL have faults even right now. The one thing that the Real Christian isn’t is perfect for there is no one perfect but Christ. However, the real Christian doesn’t use their faults as an excuse for not serving God. We are constantly pressing to repent for our sins and serve God with gladness and joy.

Are you constantly looking for ways to be a blessing for others? Do you tell others about Jesus Christ??? Does your walk match up with your talk??? Are you dedicated and faithful in the giving of your time, talents, and resources to the local assembly??? If not, there is no time like the present to start. Give your life to Christ, dedicate your life to him, join a church and get under some sound teaching, and tell others about Jesus Christ.

We have plenty of people who go to church, but will the Real Christians please stand up. God Bless
